Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), the emirate’s flagship summer retail and entertainment festival, has returned with its biggest-ever prize lineup as it runs from July 2 through August 30, 2026. The 60-day festival features 12 apartments worth more than AED 50 million, 35 cars, 3 kilograms of gold, and hundreds of thousands of dirhams in cash, making it the most ambitious edition in the event’s history.
The biggest attraction this year is the launch of “Win Your Home in Dubai,” a first-of-its-kind campaign by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE) and Dubai Chambers in partnership with developer Binghatti. A total of 12 residential units will be given away through weekly draws during DSS, including a two-bedroom grand prize apartment. Two winners have already received studio apartments under the campaign, an Indian resident and a tourist from Uzbekistan, according to Khaleej Times.
“Imagine walking into a shopping mall to buy a few things and walking away with the keys to a new home. That is exactly what Dubai Summer Surprises is promising this year,” the festival’s organizers said at a media briefing in June. The apartment giveaway reflects Dubai’s efforts to keep bringing fresh ideas to the annual shopping festival, and organizers said if the campaign receives a strong response, it could become a regular feature in future editions.
To enter the prize draws, shoppers must spend at participating outlets during the festival. Those who spend AED 200 at participating malls will be eligible for the DSS raffle, where Exeed cars will be given away. Jewellery shoppers who spend AED 500 at participating stores can enter the City of Gold promotion, offering a chance to win 3 kilograms of gold. Customers who purchase a AED 50 Winner Pack from Enoc or Zoom stores will be entered into a draw to win AED 500,000 in cash and a Dongfeng 007 car.
The festival features discounts of up to 90 percent across the city through the Great Dubai Summer Sale, flash sales, back-to-school offers, and themed shopping weekends. Food lovers can enjoy Summer Restaurant Week, featuring special menus at more than 60 restaurants, while over 700 outlets are expected to participate in the popular AED 10 Dish campaign during August, offering meals at the fixed price point.
The entertainment calendar includes the return of the Beat the Heat concert series, live performances, family shows, Modesh World, and nearly 200 hotel and attraction offers across the city. The festival aims to give residents and visitors additional reasons to spend the summer in Dubai through shopping, dining, entertainment, and family experiences spread across the emirate.
For Dubai’s retail and hospitality sectors, DSS represents a critical commercial driver during the traditionally slower summer months. The festival was originally launched in 1998 as a way to combat the summer slump when tourism typically declined due to high temperatures. Over the years, it has evolved into one of the emirate’s most important retail events, alongside the Dubai Shopping Festival held in winter.
The economic impact of DSS extends beyond direct retail sales. Hotels benefit from staycation packages and tourist visits, restaurants see increased traffic from festival-goers, and entertainment venues host performances and events throughout the 60-day period. The festival also supports the emirate’s broader tourism strategy, which aims to attract 25 million annual visitors as part of the Dubai Economic Agenda “D33.”
The introduction of apartment giveaways represents a creative approach to driving engagement with the festival. Real estate has been one of Dubai’s most active sectors in recent years, with property transactions hitting record levels. By tying real estate prizes to retail spending, organizers are creating a novel link between the emirate’s retail and property markets while generating significant public interest.
The partnership with Binghatti, one of Dubai’s active developers, also reflects the growing trend of cross-promotion between different sectors of the emirate’s economy. Binghatti, known for its residential developments in areas including Business Bay and Dubai Silicon Oasis, will benefit from the exposure generated by the apartment giveaway, while DSS gains a unique prize that differentiates it from other retail festivals in the region.
DSS also plays a role in supporting Dubai’s broader economic diversification strategy. By creating a summer festival that attracts both residents and tourists, the emirate reduces its dependence on the winter tourism season and creates more consistent economic activity throughout the year. The festival’s emphasis on local businesses, with over 700 outlets participating in the AED 10 Dish campaign, also supports the small and medium enterprise sector that is central to Dubai’s economic vision.
According to the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, previous editions of DSS have generated hundreds of millions of dirhams in retail sales and contributed significantly to hotel occupancy rates during the summer months. The 2026 edition, with its expanded prize lineup and extended duration, is expected to exceed previous records, providing a boost to the emirate’s retail, hospitality, and entertainment sectors during the traditionally quiet summer period.
