Great Wall Motor has opened its largest overseas showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road, a move that underscores the accelerating push by Chinese automakers into the UAE’s competitive automotive market. The flagship facility, operated by GWM’s UAE distributor Saeed Juma Al Naboodah Group, displays more than 10 models across the HAVAL, TANK, and POER ranges and stands as the brand’s most expansive facility outside China.

Launch and Strategic Positioning

The showroom was celebrated with an exclusive launch event hosted by UAE media personalities Kris Fade and Priti Malik, attended by government dignitaries including the Minister of Foreign Trade, H.E. Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, and senior executives from GWM and Al Naboodah Group. The facility features a dedicated café and children’s play area, positioning it as a family-friendly destination rather than a traditional car showroom.

Sunny Bhat, chief operating officer for GWM Middle East, said the opening “marks a significant milestone in GWM’s expansion across the Middle East, particularly in the UAE” and highlighted the brand’s Hi4T hybrid platform as a key differentiator in the region’s evolving new-energy vehicle landscape.

Al Naboodah Group’s Expanding Role

Khawla Saeed Juma Al Naboodah, group executive director for Saeed Juma Al Naboodah Group, called the inauguration “a clear step forward in our growth strategy,” emphasizing that the purpose-built facility strengthens operational efficiency and delivers a more seamless customer journey. Swaidan Trading, a subsidiary of the group, has played a key role in building GWM’s UAE position through its expanding showroom network.

China-UAE Trade Implications

The showroom opening reflects broader trade dynamics between China and the UAE, where Chinese brands are increasingly competing with Japanese, Korean, and European automakers across passenger and commercial segments. The presence of the Minister of Foreign Trade at the launch signals the UAE government’s support for diversifying the automotive market and attracting foreign investment. With the UAE as a strategic hub, GWM is betting that investments in new-energy technologies and world-class retail experiences will resonate with the emirate’s tech-savvy, globally minded consumer base.

The showroom opening also arrives at a moment of shifting trade dynamics in the Middle East automotive sector. As traditional Japanese and Korean brands face growing price competition from Chinese manufacturers offering feature-rich vehicles at lower price points, the UAE market has become a key battleground. GWM’s investment in a flagship facility on one of Dubai’s most visible commercial strips signals that the brand intends to compete on brand experience and after-sales service — not just price. The inclusion of new-energy vehicle technology in the showroom’s display strategy reflects the UAE government’s push toward sustainable transportation, including targets for electric and hybrid vehicle adoption that create opportunities for brands with established plug-in hybrid and electric lineups.
